According to the governor of Baalbek-Hermel, Israel has attacked targets in the immediate vicinity of world-famous Roman ruins. The attack took place 500 to 700 meters from the archaeological sites in Baalbek, Bashir Khodr told X. He published a photo of clouds of smoke, apparently immediately after the attack, not far from the remains of a Roman temple popular with tourists.

The Roman ruins in Baalbek, Lebanon, which lies at an altitude of around 1000 meters, are among the most impressive in antiquity. The city and its surroundings have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984. Huge temples were built here during the Roman Empire. Among the most famous are the remains of the Temple of Bacchus and the sanctuary of Jupiter, whose six columns, which are still standing, are also a symbol of Lebanon.
