Following the explosions near the Israeli embassy in the Danish capital Copenhagen, two suspects are under suspicion of terrorism. The two Swedes are accused of offenses against Danish terror laws, as the news agency Ritzau reported, citing investigators. Denmark now also wants to tighten controls at its borders with Sweden and Germany.

"Unfortunately, the latest developments confirm that the terror threat against Denmark is serious," said a police statement. Random checks will be carried out on vehicles and travelers.

On Wednesday night, two hand grenades exploded near the Israeli embassy. Three young Swedes were arrested. One was released, the other two were remanded in custody.

Attack also in Sweden

Shots had previously been fired at the Israeli embassy in the Swedish capital Stockholm late on Tuesday evening. The Swedish public prosecutor's office sees a connection between the acts.

The operational head of the Swedish intelligence service Säpo, Fredrik Hallström, told the Swedish news agency TT on Thursday that, among other things, the target Israel and the modus operandi supported the hypothesis that Iran could have been involved in the acts against the two embassies.
