Nobody wants a future in which people have to fear consequences if they speak their mind, Eminem said at a campaign event in his home city of Detroit. Harris stands for a future in which these and other freedoms are protected. Eminem then gave the floor to former President Barack Obama, who remains popular with Democrats.
Detroit is located in the state of Michigan, one of the seven so-called swing states in which both parties have a chance of winning. Many other states such as California or Idaho, on the other hand, tend to vote clearly for the Democrats or the Republicans. To win the US presidential election, 270 votes are needed from electors in the 50 states. In Michigan, 15 electoral votes are at stake.
Harris is already being supported in the US election campaign by music stars such as Taylor Swift and Bruce Springsteen. Musicians such as rapper Kanye West and Kid Rock have backed her opponent, Republican ex-president Donald Trump.
