Syria Activists: deaths during the arrest of a Syrian ex-officer

According to activists, 14 security forces of the transitional government have been killed in a suspected attack by supporters of ousted Syrian ruler Bashar al-Assad.

As the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported last night, local security forces were attempting to arrest the former director of Assad's Military Justice Administration at his home in Tartus in the west of the country when young gunmen opened fire on them.

Three of the perpetrators were also killed in the attack by Assad supporters. The interim government's interior ministry had previously warned of attempts by remaining Assad supporters to destabilize the country.
