The important ICE high-speed line between the German cities of Cologne and Frankfurt will be closed for almost four weeks from Tuesday. Travelers must be prepared for detour, train cancellations and longer journey times.

According to Deutsche Bahn, travelers must be prepared for train cancellations and delays of between 40 and 90 minutes until August 12. As the trains are being rerouted, the Siegburg/Bonn, Montabaur and Limburg Süd stops will be closed. They can be reached by replacement bus services.

Over the four weeks, 70 kilometers of track and 13 points are to be renewed along the route. The closure was originally planned to last until August 16.

Tracks, overhead lines, signals, points, bridges and stations on the busy Frankfurt-Mannheim line will be modernized by mid-December. Deutsche Bahn hopes that the concept will ensure disruption-free traffic in the long term. Such a general refurbishment is planned for a total of 40 heavily used corridors in Germany. Next year it will be the turn of the Hamburg-Berlin and Emmerich-Oberhausen sections.
