The airline Japan Airlines has fallen victim to a cyber attack. The airline announced this on Thursday, stating that this could potentially lead to delays or even flight cancellations.

"We can confirm that we have been the victim of a cyber attack and are dealing with the situation," a spokeswoman for Japan's second-largest airline told the AFP news agency. It was "currently unable to provide details on the affected flights."

This is the latest cyberattack on Japanese companies and authorities. At the end of 2023, the Japanese space agency JAXA announced that it had probably been the victim of a cyberattack.

In July of the same year, the port of Nagoya, the archipelago's most important port in terms of traffic volume, was paralyzed by a ransomware attack attributed to the Russian-speaking hacker group LockBit.

Toyota had to stop production for a day

According to media reports, the Japanese cyber security agency (NISC) was also itself the victim of a hacker attack that may have lasted up to nine months.

In February 2022, the world's largest car manufacturer Toyota was forced to stop all production in Japan for a day after one of its suppliers was the target of a cyber attack.

More recently, the hugely popular Japanese video-sharing website Niconico was also forced to temporarily suspend its services in June, its operator announced, after being the target of a large-scale cyberattack.
