Public service Federal Council examines reintegration of Ruag into the Defense Department

Ruag will soon no longer be organized as an AG under private law. According to the Federal Council, this legal form is no longer fit for purpose for the armaments group. Among other options, the reintegration of Ruag into the DDPS is also being examined.

On Wednesday, the Federal Government decided to review the legal form of Ruag MRO AG, as it announced. The federally-owned armaments company, which generates eighty percent of its turnover through orders from the Swiss Armed Forces, is to be given a new form under public law - which one is still open.

According to an expert opinion, a public-law institution or a special public-law company limited by shares could be considered, which could be structured to meet the needs of the Confederation. The option of reintegration into the DDPS is also being examined.

The Department of Defense is to submit a consultation draft to the Federal Council by the end of May 2025 to amend the legal basis.
