The race for the two rental bills is more exciting than it has been for a long time. According to political scientist Urs Bieri from the gfs.bern research institute, the initially announced Yes to new rules for subletting could still be overturned. The no to owner-occupation is more certain.

"There are still uncertainties with both proposals", Bieri said on Swiss radio SRF early Sunday afternoon. There is a "huge urban/rural divide". The vote on subletting could still tip into a no. At the same time, it is unlikely that the new rules on owner-occupation will be accepted after all.

The second projections commissioned by SRG showed a 51% Yes vote for subletting and a 51% No vote for owner-occupation. The margin of error for both proposals was plus/minus three percentage points.
