One day before the scheduled start of a civil trial in the USA, Boeing has reached an out-of-court settlement to avert the trial. The trial, which was to take place in Chicago, is related to the crash of a Boeing 737 MAX in Ethiopia in 2019.
Informed sources have revealed that Boeing has reached a settlement with the family of a young woman who died in the crash. This settlement is still subject to approval by a judge. Despite the settlement, a hearing is to take place, according to judicial circles.
The tragic incident occurred on March 10, 2019, when an Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed shortly after take-off in Addis Ababa. All 157 people on board, including five Germans, lost their lives. The victims came from a total of 35 countries.
The crash led to a worldwide flight ban for the Boeing 737 MAX. An aircraft of the same type had already crashed off the Indonesian island of Java in October 2018, killing all 189 occupants. This flight ban plunged Boeing into a deep crisis and was only gradually lifted at the end of 2020.
