Switzerland is facing the next socio-political vote with the pension fund reform: Interior Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider is campaigning for the reform in Bern today.

Switzerland is facing its next social policy vote with the pension fund reform. The reform is intended to secure pensions under the compulsory occupational pension scheme and improve pension benefits for people on low wages.

Interior Minister Elisabeth Baume-Schneider is presenting the Federal Council's arguments for a yes vote on the pension fund reform on September 22 in Bern today. The left is fighting the bill with a referendum.

In the eyes of the Federal Council, the reform is necessary to secure pensions from the second pillar despite the ageing population. The reform would also improve the retirement provision of people with low wages and part-time jobs. A majority of these are women, the Federal Council states.

Those who earn little are to receive more money from the occupational pension scheme after retirement - or a pension from the second pillar at all. For funds that offer the statutory minimum benefits or only a little more, the reform will provide a more solid financial basis, it writes.
