In Austria, it will probably take a very long time to repair the damage caused by the floods.

Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Prime Minister of the particularly affected federal state of Lower Austria, now assumes that the reconstruction of the destroyed regions will take "not days, weeks or months, but years". She believes that "national solidarity" is necessary for this, she said.

The federal government has already increased the disaster fund, which can be used to pay for the repair of destroyed infrastructure as well as private damage, to one billion euros.

In the meantime, the flood situation is continuing to ease. Water levels are receding everywhere. However, it is still not possible to enter around 300 buildings in Lower Austria, which was particularly affected. According to the authorities, the extent of the damage is still impossible to estimate.
