Avalanche/landslide Another victim of the storms in the Maggia Valley found

A fifth fatality has been found in the area of the storms in Ticino, in the gravel bed of the Maggia near Riveo. A victim of the storms had already been found there on Tuesday, as the Ticino cantonal police announced on Wednesday.

The body was found during a search operation involving members of the cantonal police, Swiss Alpine Rescue and Alpine Rescue dog units, it said. The dead person was rescued by helicopter. Identification was still underway on Wednesday.

This brings the number of deaths in the canton of Ticino due to the storms to five. Three women were found dead in the upper Maggia Valley. The two most recently found victims were recovered in Riveo. This village is located in the lower part of the Maggia Valley, below the village of Cevio.
