The Swiss branch of the German discounter Aldi will be focusing more on food in future. Customers are increasingly ordering non-food items such as kitchen appliances, tools and clothing online, Aldi wrote in a press release on Tuesday.

For years, Aldi Suisse has been observing a declining demand for such products in its stores. In response to this, the non-food range has been reduced in recent months, according to the statement.

Instead, Aldi is using the space freed up in its stores to expand its food range. Particular attention is being paid to fresh products such as fruit and vegetables, regional specialties and organic products. However, Aldi Suisse is also expanding its frozen food range. In addition, foods from the Balkans, Mexico, Asia and Iberia "have been given a permanent place".
