FC Sion also beat Young Boys in their second Super League encounter. The Valais side overwhelmed the champions in the first half and won 3:1 without discussion.

It was astonishing that Sion coach Didier Tholot sent the same starting eleven out onto the pitch three days after the exhausting Cup round of 16 tie as in Basel, where the Valais side left the pitch as losers after 120 minutes and the subsequent penalty shoot-out.

It was just as astonishing how the home team dominated the champions. There was no sign of tired legs on the part of the Valais team. Instead, it was the Bernese who looked lethargic. They were also in action on Wednesday, but were able to win their round of 16 match against lower-ranked Schaffhausen after 90 minutes.

In the Tourbillon, however, the game was already decided after half an hour. Gora Diouf (14') and captain Joël Schmied (16') scored from set-pieces, Ilyas Chouaref after a counter-attack (29').

YB rallied somewhat at the start of the second half. But after Cheikh Niasse was sent off around 20 minutes before the end, the air was out. It was the seventh (!) sending-off for YB this season. Joël Monteiro did some cosmetic work in stoppage time.

Sion moved three points clear of Young Boys in the table and are now in 7th place, while the champions are struggling to catch up.
