National League World champion Daniel Vozenilek on a high with EV Zug

Zug's top scorer Daniel Vozenilek scores by the meter and secures himself an entry in the EV Zug history books. These are the facts from Saturday's games.

He has barely arrived in the National League and already holds a record: Daniel Vozenilek needs no time to get started at EV Zug. The Czech world champion scored a power play goal in the Central Swiss team's 4-0 win in Langnau to make it 1-0 for the ninth game in a row, equaling the club record set by former champion forward Bill McDougall in 1997. The national record is held by former Davos champion Lance Nethery, who once scored in 14 games in a row.

Particularly bitter for the SCL Tigers: Before Vozenilek's record goal, Joshua Fahrni scored a regulation goal in the 5th minute. However, because the referee had interrupted the game (too early), Langnau's would-be opening goal was disallowed. Tim Wolf, who once again deputized for the injured Leonardo Genoni, celebrated his first shutout in a Zug dress.

Säteri's replacement keeps a clean sheet for Biel

Like Zug, Biel also picked up the maximum six points this weekend. The Seelanders followed up Friday's 3-1 win at home against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers with a 3-0 win at bottom-of-the-table Ajoie. Instead of Harri Säteri, young Luis Janett was in goal for Biel for once. With 42 saves, he and two-goal scorer Lias Andersson were the match-winners for the in-form visitors, who have won six of their last seven games. It was the first shutout for 24-year-old Janett from eastern Switzerland in his fifth appearance in the National League.

A collision with consequences

The goalies were also in the spotlight in Geneva. Servette were forced to change goalkeepers at the start of the second period after Davos defender Klas Dahlbäck collided with Robert Mayer at full force. Geneva's own 18-year-old Nassim Jaafri-Hayani came on for the injured Mayer. Just one minute after coming on, he was beaten for the first time. Valentin Nussbauer scored for HCD to make it 1:0. In the 45th minute, Teemu Hartikainen equalized for Geneva with his eleventh goal of the season, but the visitors struck back once more. Adam Tambellini scored the winning goal on the power play in the 58th minute after a pass from Nussbaumer. Servette, for its part, was unable to take advantage of a five-minute overtime situation in the middle third after Filip Zadina was sent off for an elbow check.

Lakers still strong at home

A top team at home, but far from it away from home: that's been the case for the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers in the first few weeks of this championship. In their 2:1 win against Fribourg-Gottéron, the St. Gallen team also scored in their eighth home game, even though the visitors took the lead after twelve minutes with a goal from defenceman Maximilian Streule. Jeremy Wick (14th) and Yannick-Lennart Albrecht (30th) turned the tide in the Lakers' favor with their goals by half-time. Gottéron's gamble to give regular goalie Reto Berra a break didn't work out. His 13-year-old replacement Bryan Rüegger was unable to prevent Fribourg's sixth defeat in their seventh away game.

Lugano's pitch-black October

After a promising start to the season with four wins from the first five games, Lugano slipped deeper and deeper into crisis. The 3-2 defeat at home to second-placed Lausanne was the Ticino side's seventh loss in nine games this month and fourth in a row. Lugano pressed for the opening goal in the final period, but Marco Zanetti was tripped with just over four minutes remaining, leading to a penalty that Lausanne used to score the winner through Tim Bozon.
