FC St. Gallen missed out on a win and a place in the top 6 with a goalless draw at home to Yverdon.
St. Gallen made an effort and looked to get in front of Yverdon goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni from the very first minute. For the most part, however, the eastern Swiss lacked the precision to play their way through the tightly packed Vaud defense. As a result, scoring chances were rare. Bastien Toma had the best one a quarter of an hour before the end when he hit the post from an acute angle.
St. Gallen, who are unbeaten in five games but have only picked up seven points in that time, continue their Conference League campaign on Thursday against the Serbs of Backa Topola. Yverdon, who managed to pick up a point after three consecutive defeats, will host FC Luzern next weekend.
