Jannik Sinner wins the Australian Open as he did last year. The world number one left German Alexander Zverev no chance in the final, winning 6:3, 7:6 (7:4), 6:3.
Sinner won his third tournament victory at Grand Slam level. In addition to his first triumph twelve months ago in Melbourne, the South Tyrolean was also unbeatable at the US Open last September.
With his latest success, Sinner underlined his supremacy in men's tennis in an impressive manner - and extended his unbeaten run to 21 matches. Since losing to Spain's Carlos Alcaraz in the final of the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing last October, he has won the Masters 1000 event in Shanghai, the ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup with the Italian team for the second time in a row. In Melbourne, he has now won seven more singles matches.
Zverev, for his part, will have to wait a little longer for his first title at a major tournament. This is the third time he has reached the final - and the third time he has lost out. The same thing that happened to him now in the Rod Laver Arena also happened to him at the US Open four and a half years ago against the Austrian Dominic Thiem and at last year's French Open against Alcaraz.
