Servette failed to move to the top of the table in the 17th round of the Super League. The Geneva side were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club Winterthur.
The game started as expected. League top scorer Dereck Kutesa gave the home team the lead in the 9th minute with a powerful but not particularly well-placed shot from around 20 meters. It was already the 27-year-old's tenth goal.
Geneva, who were without their suspended playmaker Timothé Cognat, then lost control of the game. The visitors became more courageous as the game progressed and deservedly equalized after just under an hour. Antoine Baroan finished off a perfectly executed counter-attack following a corner from the home team.
In the end, Winterthur were closer to their first away win of the season than Geneva were to their sixth home victory. While Servette recklessly gave away two points in the battle for the championship title, Winterthur handed the red lantern back to Grasshoppers.
