Without Manuel Akanji, who will probably have to take a few more days off with adductor problems, Manchester City looked to be on course for their second win in the last seven weeks. Josko Gvardiol's narrow lead after just over half an hour lasted until the 88th minute. Then the 22-year-old Ivorian Amad Diallo provided the turnaround that was no longer thought possible.
Diallo first benefited from a short pass from Kyle Walker towards City goalkeeper Ederson, which he was able to intercept. The foul on him allowed Bruno Fernandes to make it 1:1 from the penalty spot. 115 seconds later, Diallo, the best player on the pitch, escaped the Manchester City defense to make it 2:1.
The gap between Manchester City, now in fifth place, and leaders Liverpool is now nine points. Manchester United remain in the second half of the table.
