Dominic Lobalu, who is eligible to compete for Switzerland, wins the traditional Course de l'Escalade road race in Geneva for the second time since 2022.
The 2024 European champion over 10,000 m won the 7.323 km course in 20:37.7 minutes by a wafer-thin margin ahead of Frenchman Jimmy Gressier. Lobalu missed his own course record by 13 seconds. Dutchman Mike Foppen came third.
Geneva's Tadesse Abraham, two-time winner of this race, finished 11th, 48.6 seconds behind the Swiss record in the marathon (2:04:40 hours). The 42-year-old is ending his running career at the end of the year. Julien Wanders, who has even triumphed three times in his home race, finished 25th.
Diane Van Es won the women's race. The Dutchwoman relegated Helen Bekele from Geneva to 2nd place by 23.8 seconds. Oria Liaci from Valais was the second best Swiss woman in 4th place.
