Liverpool would have retaken the lead in the table with a win in the top game of round 9 at Arsenal, but had to settle for a 2-2 draw.

Including the Champions League, Liverpool had played six serious matches on foreign pitches this season before the game in London, with the team of coach Arne Slot, who has taken over from Jürgen Klopp in a difficult position, winning six times. Although they "only" drew against Arsenal, Liverpool twice came from behind. Mohamed Salah scored the 2:2 in the 81st minute.

Liverpool are now one point behind Manchester City, who won 1-0 against Southampton on Saturday thanks to a goal from Erling Haaland. Four points behind Liverpool are Arsenal.

Chelsea, now in fifth place, beat Newcastle United 2-1 with Swiss defender Fabian Schär. The visitors remained winless in the championship for the fifth time in a row and are only 12th in the table. Manchester United, who lost 2-1 at West Ham United, are only 14th.

Arsenal and Liverpool had to settle for a point in the Premier League's top match. Arsenal took an early lead through Bukayo Saka. Virgil Van Dijk nodded in the equalizer from a corner kick. The Gunners regained the lead before the break. Mikel Merino's header caused a sensation at the Emirates Stadium.

The game remained hard-fought in the second half, but Liverpool grew stronger and equalized through Mohamed Salah in the 81st minute. The draw is a fair result and will please Manchester City in particular. The current English champions thus remain in first place.
