Manuel Feller is well on the way to confirming his slalom triumph from last year in Adelboden. The Austrian leads after the first run ahead of Linus Strasser and Clément Noël.
Given the snowfall in the Bernese Oberland, it came as no surprise that the first three places were taken by the racers with start numbers one to three. Feller, Strasser and Noël found the best conditions on the Chuenisbärgli and finished within 38 hundredths of a second of each other at the top. Behind them lurked a "Norwegian" trio with Timon Haugan, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen and Henrik Kristoffersen, although Braathen has been skiing for Brazil since this season.
Loïc Meillard, who started in fourth place, suffered a disappointment. The man from Neuchâtel, who had started as the discipline leader in Adelboden, fell in on the finish slope. It was the first retirement in the tenth race of the season for the great Swiss hope, who had finished on the podium four times in the five previous slaloms. In addition to Meillard, team-mate Ramon Zenhäusern was also eliminated. In addition, Atle Lie McGrath and Samuel Kolega, two podium racers from this slalom season, did not finish.
The best Swiss skier was Daniel Yule in 10th place, the winner of Adelboden 2020 one second off the podium. The other Swiss are among the losers: Tanguy Nef, Luca Aerni and Marc Rochat are at the back of the rankings after 31 racers and still have to fear for their participation in the second run. This starts at 1.30 pm.
