Jan Christen wins the medal he was aiming for in the U23 time trial at the World Cycling Championships in Zurich. The 20-year-old from Aargau, who is already on the pro tour, comes third.

The bronze medal on the 30 km course came about because the favorite Alec Segaert from Belgium collapsed. As a lightweight, Christen also lost time, especially on the last 12 flat kilometers. He was in danger of 4th place.

Contrary to expectations, the favorite Segaert could not keep up the pace along the lake basin. He lost almost a minute on the winner Ivan Romeo from Spain. The Swede Jakob Söderqvist came second, 32 seconds behind, while Christen was 40 seconds behind. Fabio Weiss finished in 19th place.

Christen won Switzerland's third medal at the Cycling and Para-Cycling Road World Championships in Zurich.
