AC Fiorentina striker Edoardo Bove, who collapsed on the pitch during his club's Serie A match against Inter Milan on Sunday, is on the road to recovery.
According to Italian media reports, the 22-year-old was conscious in hospital in Florence on Monday morning and had responded to questions. Fiorentina announced that initial tests "have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous and cardiovascular systems".
Bove collapsed after 16 minutes of play and lay motionless. During the broadcast, other players and first responders could be seen immediately trying to open the attacking player's mouth and possibly expose his tongue. After receiving first aid, the 22-year-old was quickly driven off the pitch. The match was abandoned.
The Roman-born player received numerous wishes for his recovery, including from FIFA boss Gianni Infantino. "The big family of world football is united at your side," Infantino wrote on social media. Italian Sports Minister Andrea Abodi also wished Bove a speedy recovery.
