Bayern Munich extend their lead at the top of the table in the 13th round of the Bundesliga with a 4-2 win over Heidenheim. Chasing rivals Frankfurt surprisingly dropped points against Augsburg.
Bayern returned to winning ways after their Cup exit and the draw in Dortmund a week ago. Despite dominating the game, the league leaders struggled against Heidenheim, but ultimately ran out deserved winners. Leon Goretzka, who has often only been on the bench of late, and substitute Jamal Musiala (2) ensured the late decision.
With the win, the record champions extended their lead over first-placed Frankfurt to six points. Dino Toppmöller's team, who suffered a painful 3-0 defeat in the Cup in Leipzig on Wednesday after seven wins in a row in all competitions, were held to a 2-2 draw by Augsburg.
The other two teams in the top quartet also struggled, but won. Despite taking an early 2-0 lead against newly promoted St. Pauli - Granit Xhaka provided the assist for the first goal - champions Bayer Leverkusen had to tremble for victory until the final whistle, but managed to hold on for a 2-1 win. Leipzig remain hot on the heels of the top three thanks to a 2-0 win in Kiel.
Bochum remain bottom of the table. VfL lost 1-0 at home to Bremen and have not beaten Werder at home since September 1998. Back then, Raphael Wicky still wore the Bremen jersey.
