When Taylor Swift gives a concert, the world of the Swifties is turned upside down. Next week, the US superstar will be stopping in Zurich for two concerts on her "Eras Tour". Tickets are selling like hot cakes and the accommodation has all been booked out for a long time.

Swift's concert venues are often located in a beautiful park or in an XXL hall on the outskirts of the city. Not so in Zurich. The Letzigrund stadium is located in the middle of the city. Zurich is facing a gigantic challenge. Traffic collapse is imminent.

The fact that many disappointed Swift fans will make the pilgrimage to Zurich in the hope of still being able to get hold of a ticket presents the city with a new challenge. Takk Entertainment, the event organizer, states on its website that only fans with a valid ticket will be allowed into the stadium. The rest will be barred.

The Zurich city police are also expecting a large number of ticketless fans. The two Swift gigs will be a challenge for the city and the security authorities. "Yes, these concerts represent a special situation," says city police spokeswoman Judith Hödl to blue News.

Extensive cordoning off

Around 48,000 fans from Switzerland and abroad are expected, writes the Zurich City Police today, Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Experience has shown that this leads to a high volume of traffic and people in the area around Letzigrund Stadium.

Zurich city police are therefore appealing to people to only attend the concerts by public transport. Fans without a ticket should not make the pilgrimage to the stadium. Admission to the security area around the stadium will be controlled by the organizer and is only permitted for concert-goers.

The area is closed from these streets: Flurstrasse, Hohlstrasse, Herdernstrasse, Bullingerstrasse, Hardstrasse, part of Albisriederplatz with Albisriederstrasse, Brahmsstrasse and Rautistrasse.

These streets around Zurich's Letzigrund Stadium will be cordoned off.

Due to the volume of traffic and people, which cannot be determined in advance, the Zurich city police will act flexibly and initiate an appropriate traffic concept or crowd control measures. Accordingly, there will be an increased police security presence around the stadium.

Camping is not permitted

Camping is not permitted, writes the organizer. Queuing for the best seats is only possible from 10 a.m. on the day of the event - and only with a valid ticket.

Takk Entertainment does not specify on its website exactly how camping on the grounds is to be prevented. The city police refer this question to the organizer.

Taylor Swift's hotel suite in Zurich costs 18,000 francs per night

Will Taylor Swift and her bodyguards be seen shopping on Bahnhofstrasse next week? Could perhaps become a reality.

According to blick.ch, Taylor Swift has booked the entire Mandarin Oriental Savoy hotel on Paradeplatz for herself and her entourage for her trip to Zurich.

The cost of the presidential suite: 18,000 francs per night. What does the room offer? Taylor Swift's suite has a king-size bed, an elegant seating area and a dining area for eight people. Swift also has an office space, a living and dining area and a walk-in closet. The highlight? Its own rooftop bar with a unique view of Paradeplatz. At 200 square meters, this hotel suite is the largest in the city of Zurich. Brown, amber and tobacco tones create a sophisticated interior backdrop, the hotel advertises.

It is no coincidence that Taylor Swift chose this hotel: "She is a regular guest and a big fan of the Mandarin Oriental brand. She recently stayed there in Paris," says hotel industry expert Carsten K. Rath to Blick.ch.

Discretion is also a matter of honor at this address. After all, the Mandarin Oriental Savoy Hotel is used to celebrity guests. According to the Swiss daily newspaper, the fact that the location is in the middle of the city is not a problem either. Especially when the entire hotel is rented out en bloc. Strict access controls guarantee security and peace and quiet.

Luxury hotels always keep a low profile with their celebrity guests. This is also the case here: "The privacy of our guests is our top priority. We do not comment on rumors about our bookings," says Annigna Caprez, Head of PR and Communications at the Mandarin Oriental Savoy Zurich, to blick.ch.

One thing is already clear: the city of Zurich will be put to the test on these days.
