Actress Karla Sofía Gascón wins European Film Award
Actress Karla Sofía Gascón was honored as Best European Actress on Saturday evening in Lucerne. She won this award for her performance in "Emilia Pérez".

The Spanish actress said on stage at the Culture and Convention Center in Lucerne that she had not prepared an acceptance speech. She had not expected it. Gascón then thanked her mother and all the mothers in the world.
In the film by Jacques Audiard, Gascón plays a well-known Mexican drug dealer who, with the help of a lawyer, undergoes a sex change and becomes Emilia Pérez so that he can go into hiding.
The trans actress won the award against Renate Reinsve ("Armand"), Trine Dyrholm ("The Girl with the Needle"), Vic Carmen Sonne ("The Girl with the Needle") and Tilda Swinton ("The Room Next Door").
