Alexander Zverev misses out on a place in his first Wimbledon quarter-final. He loses to Taylor Fritz after leading 2:0 in sets.

Taylor Fritz (ATP 12) is in the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the second time since 2022. The 26-year-old American prevailed in a five-set thriller 4:6, 6:7 (4:7), 6:4, 7:6 (7:3), 6:3 against the German world number 4 Alexander Zverev. He turned around a 0:2 set deficit and converted his first match point after more than three and a half hours. As usual, both players impressed with their strong service game, with Fritz serving 15 and Zverev even 19 aces. For Fritz, it was not only the first win in his third duel with Zverev at Wimbledon, but also the first in his tenth match against a top five player. Zverev, who had not conceded a set or a service game to date, failed again in his attempt to reach the quarter-finals at the Grand Slam tournament in London for the first time.

Rybakina in the quarter-finals after retiring

Yelena Rybakina (WTA 4) can still count herself in with a chance of winning her second Wimbledon title after reaching the quarter-finals. The 2022 champion benefited from the retirement of her opponent Anna Kalinskaya (WTA 18) in the round of 16. The Russian, girlfriend of the Italian world number one Jannik Sinner, was 6:3, 3:0 up for Rybakina when she withdrew due to an arm injury. After a few surprises in the women's tableau, Rybakina and Italian French Open finalist Jasmine Paolini are the only remaining top ten players.
