EV Zug suffers its first defeat in the third game of the season. It loses 2:3 at home against Ambri-Piotta.
After two wins in the National League and six in preparation, the Zug team should have been brimming with confidence. They dominated the opening period and took a deserved lead thanks to Gregory Hofmann (15th). In the middle period, however, the lack of concentration increased, which took its revenge.
This was also due to the fact that goalkeeper Tim Wolf did not have a good evening. After Dario Bürgler's 1:1 (28') had already been tenable, he was caught out 159 seconds later by a harmless shot from an acute angle by Miles Müller. The 19-year-old forward scored for the first time in his fourth game in the top league.
While Zug had achieved a success rate of 71.43 percent in the power play in the first two championship games, their overtime play (eight minutes in total) left a lot to be desired this time. Ambri missed two top opportunities for a shorthander through Dominik Kubalik (18th) and Manix Landry (37th). Both failed alone in front of Wolf. It is also worth mentioning that the Leventines did not concede a goal while shorthanded after the fourth game of the season.
In the 48th minute, Jesse Virtanen scored in double overtime to make it 3:1 for the visitors, after which Zug were only able to score the tying goal through Tobias Geisser (52'). For Ambri, it was the first three-goal win in the current championship after one win on penalties and two defeats after overtime.
