The Swiss curlers led by skip Silvana Tirinzoni have won their opening game at the World Championships in Uijeongbu, South Korea. The European champions beat the USA 5:4.
After five ends it was 4:1 for the confident Swiss, who also kept control in the second half of the game against the North Americans led by Tabitha Peterson and only allowed a stone to be stolen in the 10th and final end.
The World Championships in Uijeongbu - a city with just under half a million inhabitants and close to the border with North Korea - will continue with two games on Sunday for the quartet of Selina Witschonke, Carole Howald, Silvana Tirinzoni and Alina Pätz. First, the four-time world champions and last year's runners-up will face China, then Turkey.
