The best Swiss four-man bobsleigh team starts the final two runs at the World Championships in Lake Placid on Saturday from 8th place.

Michael Vogt and his quartet are 58 hundredths off the podium after the first run on Friday.

The second run was canceled because the ice channel had suffered so much from the sunny weather that some pilots skied over bare concrete. The German Johannes Lochner damaged the runners of his bobsleigh so badly that he would have had to start again. After lengthy discussions, the run was not scored.

The other Swiss athletes behind the quartet around Vogt, weakened by illness and injury, with pushers Gregory Jones, Dominik Hufschmid and Amadou Ndiaye, finished just outside the top 10. Timo Rohner (with Dominik Schläpfer, Tim Annen and Mathieu Hersperger) is eleventh, 1.04 seconds behind, two hundredths ahead of Cédric Follador (with Nicola Mariani, Omar Vögele and Quentin Juillard) in 12th place.

Record world champion Francesco Friedrich is in the lead ahead of compatriot Lochner and Briton Brad Hall.
