Sebastian Vettel's love of nature is well known. The former Formula 1 world champion lives with his family in a farmhouse - and is now learning something completely new.
Sebastian Vettel is going back to school. "I'm doing a small apprenticeship in agriculture," revealed the four-time Formula 1 world champion, who retired from the pinnacle of motorsport at the end of 2022, at an awards ceremony in Braunschweig at the weekend. It's not full-time and will take some time, he said.
Living in a farmhouse
He was "not quite" a farmer when he graduated, he said. "But it's practically a condensed form of it and, if I pass, I would be suitable to run my own farm," explained Vettel. According to Swiss media reports, the 37-year-old is completing his training at the Pfäffikon vocational training center. He has lived with his family in a farmhouse in Switzerland for many years.
Vettel has also long been considered a great nature lover, and during his Formula 1 career he campaigned for issues such as sustainability and environmental protection. On the sidelines of the Grand Prix in São Paulo a good two weeks ago, he collected garbage on the streets.
Vettel named "Personality of the Year"
On Saturday, he received the LupoLeo Award from the United Kids Foundations, which is presented to projects and individuals who show exemplary commitment to children and young people. Vettel was named Personality of the Year.
Vettel explained that he somehow slipped into agriculture. He is fascinated by where the products come from, the appreciation and value chain, and the potential in agriculture. "I find it extremely exciting in terms of the future of agriculture" and the potential it has with regard to the climate and its changes and challenges.
