Darts star Michael van Gerwen has reached the World Championship final for the seventh time in his career and can look forward to his first crown in six years in London. The 35-year-old Dutchman clearly defeated Chris Dobey from England 6:1.

"Mighty Mike", as van Gerwen is known, has the chance to win the Sid Waddell Trophy weighing around 23 kilos and prize money of around 600,000 euros on Friday evening. His opponent will then be either Luke Littler or Stephen Bunting, both from England.

Van Gerwen, who has repeatedly had sporting lapses at Alexandra Palace in recent years, was focused from the start and quickly built up a lead. In the end, the Dutchman had won 18 legs, Dobey only ten. There was never any real tension.

Van Gerwen won his three World Championship titles in 2014, 2017 and 2019. Compared to his years of dominance, his haul at the biggest tournament in the world is rather meagre. A win in the final would see van Gerwen return to second place in the world rankings. Luke Humphries remains the clear number one.
