The two athletes crashed over the barriers into the spectator stands at full speed.

The organizers and the UCI announced late on Saturday evening that a total of four spectators had to receive medical treatment in addition to the two riders. One athlete was taken to hospital with a suspected broken forearm. According to the TV channel Eurosport, initial information indicated that there were no serious injuries.

In the Keirin sprint, six athletes compete against each other over six laps. Images show how the two athletes get caught up in each other and then drift upwards. The event was initially interrupted due to the treatment, and later canceled completely.
