Alan Roura is spending the pre-Christmas period on the Vendée Globe without sleep due to a problem with the generator in the engine room.
The Geneva native, who finished 20th in the early morning of December 25th, worked in his engine room for 29 hours, as he announced in a newsletter on Tuesday.
Due to problems with the generator, Roura had to remove his engine, which is why he did not sleep for 48 hours. "For you it may not be a big deal, but for me it's an engine that starts, and above all it's a Vendée Globe approaching the finish line," he wrote, relieved that he was able to solve the problem.
Justine Mettraux was in 11th place on the morning of Christmas Day, 2000 miles behind the leader Yoann Richomme and less than 70 miles from seventh-placed Boris Herrmann. A remarkable feat for someone whose headsail had torn a month ago. The Geneva native recently had to contend with "very rough seas", as she wrote in her column in "Le Matin". She is looking forward to finding "somewhat milder conditions" again after rounding Cape Horn, said Mettraux.
