Flag football will be an Olympic sport in 2028 - with Switzerland as a medal candidate? The men win the bronze medal at the World Championships in Lahti.

In the match for 3rd place, the Swiss beat Mexico 41:35. Leon auf der Maur scored the decisive touchdown eight seconds before the end.

The victory against the runners-up of the last World Cup was a sensation. Mexico was the heavy favorite with 83 to 17 percent. The Swiss' semi-final qualification was already a surprise. There, however, the USA were a size too big; they lost 6:45 against the motherland of American football.

For the Swiss women, the World Cup ended in the round of 16 after a 26:35 defeat against Great Britain.

Flag football will be on the Olympic program for the first time at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles. The still relatively unknown sport is a variant of American football. The players do not wear protective clothing, but instead wear two straps on their belts. If one of the straps is pulled out, it is considered a tackle.
