Switzerland finish the tournament in Fribourg in last place despite a victory at the end. The Swiss beat Finland 1-0 and celebrated their first home win in the Euro Hockey Tour after 10 defeats.
After Saturday's 2-0 defeat against world champions the Czech Republic, national coach Patrick Fischer made no secret of how annoyed he was that his players once again lacked the necessary cold-bloodedness. Although this was also a shortcoming against Finland, the team showed a completely different face than in the first two games in Fribourg - on Thursday they had suffered a 4-1 defeat against Sweden.
The Swiss fought passionately, played compactly and aggressively, making it difficult for the Finns to develop. And when they did get dangerously close to the Swiss goal, Ludovic Waeber could not be beaten. It was the Kloten goalie's first shutout in his sixth international match.
Christoph Bertschy was responsible for the 1:0 in the 15th minute. The forward, who plays for Fribourg-Gottéron, took a wonderful pass from Fabian Heldner and beat Finnish goalie Emil Larmi with ease. In the 13th minute, Lukas Frick missed the post.
