At the European Championships, the Swiss curlers led by skip Yannick Schwaller beat world champion Sweden 6-5 and the women win their third group game against Scotland.
After a commanding 7:1 opening victory against Austria in Lohja in the south of Finland, the Swiss got off to a dream start against the Swedes, led by Olympic and seven-time world champion Niklas Edin, the world's best crew of the last twelve years. They led 5:0 after the fourth end.
Sweden managed to close the gap to 4:6, but the Swiss had the advantage of the last stone in the last end. With this, Swiss number 4 Benoît Schwarz-Van Berkel managed to prevent the Swedes from making a deuce and thus an extra end. In their next game, the Swiss will face outsiders the Czech Republic on Sunday evening at 6 pm.
The Swiss women are also still unbeaten. After the two wins against Denmark and Norway at the start, the team led by skip Silvana Tirinzoni left no stone unturned against Scotland on Sunday afternoon, winning 8:1. The Scots gave up after the sixth end. The Swiss team had scored three points each in the second and fifth ends.
In the fourth group match, the Swiss will face Italy on Monday (from 7.00 a.m.).
