With 35 athletes, Swiss Athletics is represented at the Olympic Games in greater numbers than ever before. And swimmer Jérémy Desplanches has been given an upgrade.

14 Swiss women and 10 men will be competing in an individual discipline between August 1 and 11. Among them are all the Swiss medal winners from the 2024 European Championships in Rome: Mujinga Kambundji, Ditaji Kambundji, Angelica Moser, Simon Ehammer, Timothé Mumenthaler, William Reais and Jason Joseph.

And thanks to the three relay teams - 4x100 m women, 4x400 m women, 4x400 mixed - the delegation continues to grow. It has not yet been decided in detail who will all run or at least be allowed to go to Paris. The last starting places in the two 4×400 m teams will be allocated after the meeting on Saturday, July 27, in Lausanne.

With the selection decision, it is also clear that Annik Kälin will focus on the heptathlon - and not give preference to the long jump like Ehammer. The athlete from Graubünden had to choose one discipline due to the time schedule.

Dominic Lobalu is another Swiss starter who will be competing in Paris. The European 10,000 m champion will compete in the 5000 m as a member of the Olympic Refugee Team.

Desplanches swims the 200 m medley after all

Jérémy Desplanches has been given an upgrade, so to speak. The swimmer, who fulfilled the selection criteria for the relay but not for the individual race and was selected accordingly last week, will now also compete individually in the 200 m medley in Paris. This has been made possible for the Olympic bronze medallist from Tokyo by an invitation from the International Swimming Federation. This takes into account the time that Desplanches swam at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka.

Badminton player Tobias Künzi was also selected by Swiss Olympic for the Olympic Games in Paris. The 26-year-old received a quota place via a so-called re-allocation.
