Wendy Holdener narrowly misses out on her third World Cup victory in the slalom. In Kranjska Gora, the racer from Switzerland finished second behind Croatia's Zrinka Ljutic and ahead of Sweden's Anna Swenn Larsson. Camille Rast (4th) and Melanie Meillard (5th) are two more Swiss racers in the top 5.

After two strong runs, Holdener was 16 hundredths short of her first victory in more than two years. Holdener started the race in second last place ahead of Ljutic, who had set the same time in the morning, and had a lead of more than a second at the finish. But Ljutic mastered the course, which was more twisting than the first run, just as impressively.

Rast and Meillard also close to the podium

Behind Holdener, other Swiss skiers took advantage of the absence of Mikaela Shiffrin, Petra Vlhova and other top skiers to achieve top results. Camille Rast and Mélanie Meillard finished right next to the podium in 4th and 5th place. Eliane Christen made it into the top 15 for the second time in a row in fifteenth place, Elena Stoffel (18th), Janine Mächler (21st) and Michelle Gisin (28th) completed the strong team result.

Ljutic, for her part, followed up her first World Cup victory with a successful double. The 20-year-old designated successor to Janica Kostelic had already won the last slalom before the turn of the year in Semmering. With the double, she also took the lead in the Slalom World Cup from Camille Rast. After half of the races, the difference between the two is four points, with Holdener already trailing behind. In the overall World Cup, Ljutic is now just ahead of Sara Hector and Rast.
