EHC Olten is reacting to its sporting downturn and is parting ways with its head coach and sports director Gary Sheehan. His successor as coach is Christian Wohlwend.

Wohlwend was let go as coach of HC Ajoie, the National League's bottom team, just over two and a half weeks ago. In Olten, the 47-year-old Engadine native was given a contract valid until the end of the 2026/27 season.

Sheehan was promoted from assistant to head coach in Olten in January of this year following the dismissal of Lars Leuenberger. The poor start to the season, with just seven wins in 17 games and eighth place in the table, has now cost the 60-year-old Canadian, who was promoted to the National League with Ajoie in 2021, his job.

Thomas Roost, member of the Board of Directors, will be responsible for the sporting director's duties in future.
