The Swiss women are still waiting for a medal in the road race at the European Championships. Noemi Rüegg is among the front runners, but misses out on the podium.

The women's road race at the European Championships in the Belgian province of Limburg was decided in a bunch sprint and won by the big favorite, Lorena Wiebes from the Netherlands. Silver went to Elisa Balsamo from Italy and bronze to Daria Pikulik from Poland.

Meanwhile, the Swiss women's wait for a medal in a European Championship road race continues. Although Noemi Rüegg from Zurich was well in front at the finish, the Olympic seventh placed eleventh in the final sprint, missing the podium by quite a bit.

Elise Chabbey had previously failed to prevent a sprint decision with an attack in a 172 km race controlled by the strong Dutch team.

Since the jersey for a European champion was awarded for the first time in 2016, the winner has always come from the Netherlands in eight out of nine cases. Wiebes had already triumphed in 2022.
