The European champions' other preliminary round opponents in Group C are Austria and Kuwait.
Italy had previously caused a surprise in the first match of the final round, which will be played in Denmark, Croatia and Norway. The World Cup newcomers defeated Tunisia 32:25 and thus have a good chance of advancing in Group B.
