US rapper Kendrick Lamar will be the star of the upcoming halftime show of the Super Bowl of the American football league NFL. The 37-year-old Pulitzer Prize winner from Los Angeles ("Humble") announced his appearance on arguably the biggest stage in the world in a video.

"I don't want you to miss it. Meet me in New Orleans on February 9, 2025. Wear your best clothes, even if you're watching from home," said Lamar. Together with other rappers, he also performed at the 2022 Super Bowl.

The halftime show of the NFL Super Bowl finale has a long history. The stars don't get paid for their appearances, but they do get a career highlight and worldwide - hardly less lucrative - attention.

100 million people in front of the screens

Stars such as Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Prince, Michael Jackson and The Weeknd have regularly outshone the football stars on the pitch. In 2025, many of the more than 100 million people in the USA alone are likely to be watching the football spectacle in the stadium in New Orleans or on TV.

Lamar has caused a stir in recent months, particularly with his public dispute with fellow rapper Drake. His diss track "Not Like Us" became a hit.
