Former player and coach Paul-André Cadieux has died at the age of 77, as reported by "La Liberté". The Swiss-Canadian was a long-standing fixture in Swiss ice hockey.

Cadieux joined SC Bern, then playing in the NLB, as a player-coach in 1970. He led the Bernese team to the elite class before they won three championship titles (1974, 1975, 1977). He then wore the jersey of Davos, Fribourg-Gottéron, Langnau and Genève-Servette, among others.

After his long career on the ice, which he ended at the age of well over 40, he continued his career as a coach. He experienced his heyday as coach of Fribourg-Gottéron in the early 1990s, when the club signed Russian stars Slava Bykov and Andrei Khomutov. Gottéron reached the play-off final three times and failed each time.

Paul-André Cadieux then coached in all corners of the country. The last few years have been difficult for him. Last year, he had to have both legs amputated. His son Jan Cadieux led Genève-Servette to the championship title in 2023 and to victory in the Champions Hockey League in February of this year.
