According to official information, only 15 Russian athletes will take part in the Olympic Games in Paris. This is according to the IOC's final admission list.
Almost half of the athletes from Russia who are allowed to compete under a neutral flag are tennis players. They have already taken part in international tournaments. The best-known name on the list is 2021 US Open winner Daniil Medvedev.
16 athletes from Belarus have been admitted. They must also compete under a neutral flag. The following also applies to athletes from both countries: their national anthem will not be played and national symbols and flags are prohibited. Teams remain barred. In order to be admitted, athletes must have no connection to the army or security forces and must not have actively shown their support for the war in Ukraine. The International Olympic Committee had set up a commission with three members to review the admission requirements.
Originally, more Russian athletes were admitted. However, they or their sports federations decided not to participate in the Olympics under these conditions.
