Overtime has not brought Vancouver any luck of late. The Canucks conceded a goal in each of the last five overtimes and thus missed out on the extra point. In Seattle, the Canucks squandered a 3:1 lead in the final period and had to go into overtime again, in which, for once, no goal was scored. The decision was made in the penalty shootout, in which American J.T. Miller was the only player to score. Suter, who has not scored a goal in twelve games, remained without a goal.

Like Suter, Niederreiter last scored on December 7. Nevertheless, the Grisons native recorded his eleventh assist of the season against Anaheim. Niederreiter set up the goal that made it 3-2 in the final period. But his Jets, who had already squandered a 2-0 lead, were unable to hold on to the advantage. The Ducks equalized in the 59th minute and scored the winner in overtime through Troy Terry.

Lian Bichsel, who has been banished to the AHL, will have to wait for his next NHL outing. His Dallas Stars won 4:2 against the Ottawa Senators without him.
