The winds continue to be light off Marseille. The medal race of the ILCA 6 with Maud Jayet has to be postponed. Yves Mermod/Maja Siegenthaler secure a place in the top 10.
There was not enough wind on Tuesday for the ILCA 6 medal race with Maud Jayet, who is fourth in the intermediate classification going into the final competition. It will be rescheduled for Wednesday.
Mermod and Siegenthaler got off to the worst possible start in the first run and found themselves far back in the field. When the opportunity arose, unlike the other teams, they took a swing to the left - and rounded the third mark in the lead. With this race win and the subsequent solid 9th place, they improved to 6th intermediate rank. "Overall, we sailed a good regatta and were always able to react to setbacks," said Mermod before the final medal race. Siegenthaler added: "I was particularly pleased with our mental strength: we stayed relaxed and always took one step at a time. That was the key to this good placing."
The female kiters were only able to surf just one heat - and an unfortunate one at that from a Swiss perspective: shortly before the start, the wind completely died on one side of the start line. No fewer than 8 out of 20 female kiters were in this zone, remained there and therefore did not make it to the start - including Elena Lengwiler. The fact that the race committee nevertheless allowed the start procedure to continue was a questionable decision, and not just from a Swiss perspective. Various nations also lodged a protest against the race. Nevertheless, Elena Lengwiler is currently still classified in an excellent 6th place.
