Marco Odermatt, now a four-time Swiss Sportsman of the Year, maintained his high level last winter. In terms of crystal globes, he even managed to improve once again.
Odermatt achieved 13 victories in the World Cup in the season before last - and thus once again entered a new dimension. Twelve months later, he still had 13 first places to his name. Once again he was the high-flyer, once again he left his mark on the men's World Cup in an outstanding manner - all the more so after the injury-related absences of his biggest rivals Marco Schwarz and Aleksander Kilde.
In the absence of the Austrian and the Norwegian, Odermatt's third consecutive victory in the overall World Cup became apparent early on. His dominance ultimately resulted in another record. The man from Nidwalden had a lead of 874 points over his first rival Loïc Meillard in the final classification. There had never been a greater gap between the winner of the big crystal globe and the runner-up in the history of ski racing. Odermatt won a total of four globes in this historic winter: In addition to the big crystal globe, he was once again able to accept the glass trophies for the victories in the super-G and giant slalom and, for the first time, in the downhill classification.
Odermatt is no longer just a successful athlete. His successes radiate far beyond the edge of the slopes and he is a sought-after interview guest and advertising medium.
