A meeting of Manchester United's club leaders on Tuesday could decide on the future of coach Erik ten Hag and possible negotiations with Thomas Tuchel. The management of the English football record champions around co-owner Jim Ratcliffe will discuss how to proceed in the midst of the sporting crisis, reported "The Athletic". According to the media, Tuchel is one of the candidates to take over from Dutchman ten Hag.
United are only 14th in the Premier League after their 0-0 draw at Aston Villa. The team has only won two of its seven league games this season. Club co-owner Ratcliffe recently refused to make a clear commitment to the 54-year-old Dutchman.
Other succession candidates: Southgate and Potter
Tuchel has been without a job since leaving Munich in the summer. The 51-year-old continues to enjoy a good reputation in England, particularly thanks to his Champions League triumph with Chelsea FC in 2021.
Other candidates for the United job include England's former national team coach Gareth Southgate and former Chelsea coach Graham Potter. Ten Hag's contract in Manchester runs until mid-2026, and he expressed confidence ahead of the alleged top-level meeting that he would be allowed to remain in office. "We are all in agreement. It's a long-term project," said ten Hag.
